What We Store Locally

PencilGrid stores your puzzle progress in your browser's IndexedDB. This includes:

  Board state (which cells you've filled, which are marked as notes)

  Timer data (elapsed time, pause state)

  Undo history (to support undo/redo)

• •

  Stats (solved count, streaks, best times)

This data never leaves your device. It's local-only. If you clear your browser storage, it's gone.

No User Accounts

PencilGrid does not require an account. There are no usernames, passwords, email addresses, or authentication. The site works without identifying you.

Analytics & Ads

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service that does not use cookies and is GDPR compliant. Plausible collects anonymized page views and basic traffic patterns to help us understand how the site is used. No personal data is collected or stored.

We may display ads via third-party networks (such as Google AdSense). These ad providers may use cookies or similar tracking technologies. You can disable them via your browser settings or an ad blocker. The site will still function.

We do not sell or share any personal data because we don't collect it in the first place.

Cookies

PencilGrid uses a single cookie to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). This is a first-party cookie, stored locally, and is not used for tracking.

Data Retention

Because all puzzle state is stored locally in your browser, we don't control retention. You can clear it anytime via your browser's settings. Server logs (if any) are retained for security and operational purposes for up to 30 days.

Children's Privacy

PencilGrid does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. The site requires no registration or personal data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy. If we do, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
